Dr. Arif Alvi is joyfully hitched with his better half Samina Alvi and they have four youngsters, all wedded and settled with their families. Dr. Alvi makes the most of his grandkids hugely and considers them as one of the most prominent delights and joys of his life. He used to play squash, cricket, hockey and so forth in his more youthful days and now appreciates easygoing amusements just as watching them.



He was a famous dentist, Born 29th July 1949 in Karachi. He passed his degree of dentist surgery; he was president of Asia Pacific dental federation and Pakistan Dental Association.

In 1979, he joined JAMAT-E-ISLAMI and contest election in PS-89 but not succeeded.

In 1996, he joined PTI, and in general election of 1997, he contests election from constituency PS-89 for the seat of MPA. However, failed.

In 2001, he became Vice President of PAKISTAN TEHREK-E-INSAF.

In 2006-2013 ARIF-UR-REHMAN ALVI work as a secretary general of PTI.

In 2013, as a member of PTI, the first time his contest election from constituency NA-250 for the seat of MNA, succeed by 77000 votes and elected as Member of NATIONAL ASSEMBLY.

In 2016, he became president of PT I Sindh. In general election of 2018, 18 August 2018 PAKISTAN TEHREK-E-INSAF has nominated Dr.Arif Alvi as its candidate for president of Islamic republic Pakistan.

In 1997, Dr. Arif Alvi has proclaimed a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics.

He was the essential creator of the constitution of the Pakistan Dental Association and has been the chosen President of the Pakistan Dental Association.

Was Chairman of the principal Pakistan International Dental Conference in 1981.

In 1987, he was Chairman of the Third Pakistan International Dental Conference, which was introduced by Prime Minister Junejo.

Was the Patron of the Fifth Pakistan International Dental Conference introduced by the President of Pakistan.

Director of the 28th Asia Pacific Dental Congress.

Partnerships of the International College of Dentists, Fellow of The American College of Dentists and of The Pierre Fauchard Academy in acknowledgment of his extraordinary scholastic, clinical and proficient achievements.

A dignitary of the Faculty of Orthodontics of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.

In 2006, he was chosen as the President of Asia Pacific Dental Federation.

In 2007, he was chosen as a Councilor of the FDI World Dental Federation, the first run through a Pakistani has been chosen. In excess of a 100 nations cast a ballot him in twice for multi-year terms each.

Is known to compose sporadically on a blog titled Teeth Maestro and now composes on the NA-250 Blog.

He has been perceived as one of the main dental specialists in Karachi. His dad Dr. Habib Ur Rehman Elahi Alvi who rehearsed dentistry in India relocated to Pakistan in 1947 and opened a dental practice in Saddar, Karachi. Dr. Elahi Alvi was a dental specialist to Jawaharlal Nehru and the family has letters from Mr. Nehru to Dr. Alvi in their ownership.

Dr. Alvi was made a Trustee of the trust built up by Shirinbai Jinnah (Quaid-e-Azam's sister) to which she blessing all her common effects incorporating the Mohatta Palace in Karachi. He is the Managing Trustee of the said Trust.

He is a trustee of numerous other altruistic associations and is engaged with numerous generous developments.

According to the constitution, the president should be Muslim and should be 45 years old or more than 45.
Senate chairman takes over as ACTING PRESIDENT in the absence of president until the election for the next president.
Dr.Alvi took oath as a president on 9th September 2018.

Powers regarding Military

Appointment

  • On the advice of Prime Minister, President appoints Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and Chief of Air Staff. Even President of Pakistan determines their allowances and salaries.

War and Peace settlement

  • President possesses the power to declare war and make peace settlement. However, such power can only be used after making a consultation with the Prime Minister.

Sending Pakistan Army to other states and UN

  • President has the power to send Pakistan army for help to other states and the United Nations organization.

Judicial Powers

President of Pakistan possesses the following judicial powers:
  • Appointment of Chief Justice of Pakistan
  • Appointment of Chief Justices of High Courts and Judges of Supreme Court and High Court
  • Appointment of acting Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chief Justice of High Courts
  • Appointment of acting and ad hoc judges of Supreme Court
  • Appointment of additional judges of High Courts
In the past, after three successful military coups in the South Asian country, Pakistan has experienced a kind of political conflict between its President and Prime Minister. However, some of the recent constitutional amendments have made Prime Minister more powerful than President. These amendments have aimed to finish political conflict between these two constitutional heads.

Legislative Powers After the 18th Amendment

After the 18th Amendment in the Constitution of Pakistan, the President possesses the following legislative powers:
  • It is widely believed that after the 18th amendment, the Constitution does not empower the President to dissolve the National Assembly but the fact is that the head of the state still has the right. However, the President can only dissolve the National Assembly if so advised by the Prime Minister; and the National Assembly.
  • As head of the state, President conducts and oversees the general elections when the national assembly stands dissolved after completing its five-year term.
  • At the outset of the new Parliamentary year, President summons and addresses the joint session where he reminds the lawmakers of the state’s founding principles.
  • President has the right to promulgate any ordinance or an amended bill. If the president rejects the bill, it comes back to the Parliament and then needs 2/3 majority to be passed again. If the bill gets 2/3 majority then the President is bound to sign that bill and if the bill fails to get 2/3 majority, the life of that bill gets over.
  • President is also the Chancellor of all federal universities in the country.
  • It is the President who appoints Auditor General, Attorney General, Governors, members of National Finance Commission, members and chairman of Council of Islamic Ideology, Council of Common Interest, and National Economic Council.
  • President of Pakistan has the power to appoint ambassadors in foreign states and representative in the United Nations Organization and to settle foreign affairs.
  • President also holds the power to grant pardon, or reduce the sentence of a convicted prisoner.

How can President of Pakistan be removed?

Under the following ground or conditions, the president may be removed from his office.
  • Physical incapacity
  • Mental incapacity
  • Guilty of violation of the constitution
  • On account of gross misconduct
